Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/4 c. margarine

Directions

    In a large bowl, thoroughly mix 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, sugar and undissolved yeast. Set aside. Combine milk, water and margarine in saucepan.

    Heat over low heat until liquids are very warm (120° to 130°).

    Margarine does not need to melt.

    Gradually add to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Add 1/2 cup flour. Beat at high speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Stir in enough flour to make soft dough. Turn out onto lightly floured board.

    Knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.

    Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover and place in warm place (or set bowl in pan of water at about 100°) for 15 minutes.

    Turn dough out onto floured board.

    Shape rolls. Cover and let rise in a warm place free from draft for about 15 minutes. Bake at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
