Almond Fruit Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 c. sifted flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 (6 oz.) pkg. butterscotch pieces
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c. slivered almonds, chopped
  • 1/2 c. finely chopped candied cherries
  • 1/2 c. golden raisins, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange peel

Directions

    Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.

    Melt in saucepan over low heat butterscotch pieces and butter.

    Remove from heat and add brown sugar and sifted ingredients.

    Press into bottom of 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

    Bake at 325° for 15 minutes.

    Combine and spread over hot crust almonds, candied cherries, raisins, eggs, sugar and orange peel.

    Return to oven and bake 15 to 20 minutes more.

    Remove from oven and cool.

    Cut into 1 1/2 x 2-inch bars. Makes about 36.
