- 1/2 c. yellow cornmeal
- 2 c. boiling water
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 c. molasses
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 5 to 6 c. flour
Directions

1Stir cornmeal into boiling water in a large bowl, adding the cornmeal very slowly.

2When mixed, add shortening, molasses and salt.

3Cool.

4When lukewarm, add 1 package yeast dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water.

5Add the flour, enough to make a stiff dough. Knead well and put in warm place to rise until doubled (about 1 hour).

6Knead again.

7Shape into 2 loaves and let rise again until light (about 1/2 hour).

8Bake for about 45 minutes at 375°.

9Turn out of pans and brush with melted butter.
