- 2 pkg. (1/4 oz. each) active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. warm buttermilk
- 5 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/3 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 c. shortening
- melted butter or margarine
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Let stand 5 minutes.

3Stir in the buttermilk.

4Set aside.

5In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt.

6Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.

7Stir in yeast and buttermilk mixture, mixing well.
