- 5 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1/4 c. water
- 3/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Mix 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, soda and yeast in large bowl.

2Heat until very warm the water, buttermilk and shortening.

3Add gradually to dry ingredients, beat 2 minutes. Add 3/4 cup flour and beat for 2 minutes.

4Stir in enough flour to make soft dough.

5Turn onto floured board, knead 20 to 25 times.

6Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness; cut into circles and place on ungreased pans.

7Let rise about 1 hour.

8Bake at 400° approximately 20 minutes.

9Makes 28 to 30 biscuits.
