- 4 c. plain flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3 scant Tbsp. sugar
- 1 c. shortening
- 2 c. buttermilk
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. lukewarm water
Directions

1Sift flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and sugar together.

2With a pastry blender, cut shortening into flour mixture; add buttermilk.

3Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water and add to flour mixture; mix well.

4Add extra flour, if needed.

5On a floured surface, roll dough out to desired thickness; cut with biscuit cutter and place in baking pan.

6If desired, let rise in warm place for 10 minutes, or bake immediately in a 450° oven for about 10 minutes or until done.

7The unbaked dough can be stored in an airtight container in refrigerator.
