- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/2 c. warm water
- 4 3/4 c. flour
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Grease baking sheets; set aside.

2Soften yeast in warm water; set aside.

3In mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.

4Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

5Add shortening, yeast and buttermilk.

6Stir just until dough clings together.

7Knead gently on lightly floured surface 10 to 12 strokes.

8Cut with floured biscuit cutter.

9Place on cookie sheets, folding biscuit circles in half.

10Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes.
