Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 3 Tbsp. lukewarm water
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 c. buttermilk
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in water in a small bowl.

    Sift all ingredients together in a large bowl.

    Cut in shortening; add buttermilk, then yeast mix.

    Stir until thoroughly moistened.

    Knead a minute or two.

    Roll out to desired thickness.

    Cut into rounds.

    Brush with melted butter and bake on an ungreased pan at 400° for 12 to 15 minutes.

    Dough may be refrigerated until ready to use.
