- 2 sticks butter
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 5 eggs
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 3 c. flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 Tbsp. anise seed
Directions

1Mix all ingredients.

2Shape into 2 mounds, one on each baking sheet.

3Bake in a 350° oven for 20 to 30 minutes, until the mounds brown lightly and are fairly firm in the center.

4Reverse the sheets on the oven racks after 15 minutes so that browning is even; remove.

5Cut away edges to make mounds square.

6Cut into 1-inch slices.

7Turn each strip on one cut side; bake for 10 minutes. Bake on other cut side for 10 minutes.
