  • 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 6 12 cups flour
  • 13 cup milk, plus
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 teaspoons anise extract

    In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

    Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each.

    In a medium bowl, sift together flour, cream of tartar, and baking soda.

    In a small bowl, mix together milk and anise extract.

    To the butter mixture, alternately add flour mixture and milk.

    Refrigerate 1 hour or overnight.

    Roll dough out 1/4 inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.

    Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes or until light brown.
