  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 5 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

    Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and vanilla, beating after each. Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 30 minutes or 1 hour and 40 minutes. Cool in pan 5 minutes. Turn out and cool on rack. Frost if desired.
