  • 6 apples
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. melted butter
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp. butter

    Combine flour, oatmeal, brown sugar and butter. Pat half this mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch pan. In a saucepan, mix together sugar, salt, cornstarch and water. Cook until thickened. Add vanilla and butter. Pare apples (I use 4 cups of apples); slice thin and add to cooked mixture, tossing lightly to mix. Spread evenly over crumbs. Pat remaining crumbs over apple mixture. Bake at 350° for 50 to 55 minutes.
