- 1/2 c. whole bran cereal
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. boiling water
- 1 egg
- 6 c. thin sliced apples
- 1/4 c. melted butter
- 1 c. sifted flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. light corn syrup
Directions

1Mix cereal, molasses, shortening and water.

2Add egg and beat with beater.

3Let stand 5 minutes.

4Sift flour, soda, powder and spices and salt.

5Add cereal mixture.

6Stir until blended.

7Pour into 8 x 8-inch pan.

8Bake 20 minutes in 350° oven.

9Arrange apples in layers over top.

10Brush with mixture of butter and syrup.

11Bake 10 minutes.

12Remove from oven.

13Brush apples with milk and broil just a few minutes.
