  • 8 cups apples
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice or apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cups sugar mixed with brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. flour (or a bit more)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • rolled oats for bottom of pie

    Sprinkle rolled oats on bottom of pie pastry

    Mix apples with lemon juice

    Cook half of the apples on medium for 10 minutes to reduce liquid then add to raw apples

    Add all other ingredients

    Place apples in pie shell over rolled oats

    Place 2 tbsp. butter on top of apples

    Seal top of pastry to bottom with water

    Brush top with 1 egg yolk/ 1 tbsp. milk

    Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar

    Cook 425 for 15 minutes the 350 for 40 min

    Cover top of pie when getting too brown
