  • 13 cup butter, softened
  • 34-1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 14 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup flour
  • 12 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tablespoons wheat germ (optional)
  • 34 teaspoon baking soda
  • 34 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 12 teaspoon baking powder
  • 12 teaspoon salt
  • 12 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 18 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 12-1 cup dried fruit
  • 12 cup nuts, chopped

Directions

    In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar.

    Add the egg and applesauce; mix well.

    Combine the flour, wheat germ, baking soda, cinnamon, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cloves.

    Stir into creamed mixture just until moistened.

    Fold in dried fruit and nuts.

    Pour into a greased 8 inch x 4 inch loaf pan.

    Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 to 65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.

    Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack to cool completely.
