  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 c. applesauce
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg or allspice
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. nuts

Directions

    Cream together shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs, water and applesauce.

    Sift together all dry ingredients, then add raisins, cloves and nuts.

    Bake in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan for 1 hour at 350°.
