  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 1/2 c. flour (self-rising)
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 3/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 lb. orange gum candy

Directions

    Cream shortening, sugar and eggs until light.

    Sift dry ingredients together.

    Add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce.

    Add nuts, raisins and cut gum slices.

    Bake 1 1/2 hours in a 325° oven in greased, paper-lined pan.
