Applesauce Cake

  • 1 1/2 c. thick unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 c. walnuts

    Cook 4 to 6 apples to desired thickness and measure 1 1/2 cups into bowl.

    At once, add shortening, sugar and raisins.

    Stir gently a couple of times and then let cool.

    Sift dry ingredients and mix carefully into applesauce mixture.

    Gently add nuts.

    Turn into square cake pan and bake at 350° for approximately an hour. Good plain or with cream cheese or brown sugar frosting.
