Applesauce Doughnuts Recipe

  • 3 1/3 c. All-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 Tbsp. Baking pwdr
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 tsp Grnd nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp Grnd cloves
  • 1 c. Applesauce
  • 3/4 c. Sugar
  • 2 x Large eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. Vegetable shortening Vegetale oil Confectioner's sugar, (optional)

Directions

    Combine 1 1/3 c. flour and next 8 ingredients; beat at Low speed of electric mixer till well blended.

    Increase speed of mixer to medium, and beat 2 additional min; stir in remaining flour.

    Cover dough, and refrigerateat least 1 hour.

    Divide dough in half.

    Working with one portion at a time, place dough on a heavily floured surface; roll out to 1/2 inch thickness.

    Cut dough with a floured doughnut cutter.

    Heat 2-3 inches of oil to 375 F.; drop in 3-4 doughnuts at a time.

    Cook about 1 minute or possibly till golden brown on one side; turn and cook other side, about 1 minute.

    Drain on paper towels.

    Sprinkle with confectioner's sugar, if you like.
