Applesauce Fruit Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 c. applesauce
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. white sugar
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 3 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 lb. dates, chopped
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1/4 lb. nuts
  • 1 lb. mixed fruit mix

Directions

    Boil applesauce, shortening and sugar for 5 minutes.

    Let stand overnight or cold.

    In large bowl, put chopped fruit and nuts.

    Mix flour, soda and spices; put on top of fruit mixture.

    Pour cold applesauce mixture over all dry ingredients; mix well.

    Bake in greased and lined pans at 250° for 2 1/2 hours, or until done. Fill 1/2 to 2/3 full.
