- 2 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen whole asparagus spears
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 Tbsp. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- few grains pepper
- 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 c. undiluted milk
- 1/2 c. water
- 4 sliced, hard-cooked eggs
- 1/2 c. shredded process American cheese
- 1/2 c. soft bread cubes
Directions

1Cook asparagus according to package directions; drain well. Melt butter in saucepan over low heat.

2Stir in flour and seasonings.

3Slowly add milk and water.

4Cook until mixture thickens, stirring constantly.

5Arrange half of asparagus in buttered 2-quart baking dish.

6Place half of eggs, cheese and sauce over asparagus.

7Repeat layers.

8Combine butter and bread cubes; sprinkle over top of casserole.

9Bake in moderate oven (350°) for 20 minutes.
