  • 2 lb. asparagus spears
  • 1/2 c. shoyu
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. sesame seed, toasted
  • 1 tsp. sesame oil
  • Bonito flakes (optional)

Directions

    Clean asparagus; cut at an angle into fourths.

    In a large pot, bring water to a rapid boil.
  3. 3
    Parboil asparagus until tender but very crisp.

    Immediately plunge asparagus into cold water to cool.

    Drain very well and place aside.
  6. 6
    Combine remaining ingredients for sauce and pour over asparagus right before serving.
