Authentic Char Siu Pork Baked in a Toaster Oven

  • 350 grams Pork shoulder roast (block)
  • 1 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Shaoxing wine
  • 1 tsp Oyster sauce
  • 1/4 tsp Chinese five spice powder
  • 1 tsp Juice from grated ginger

    Cut the meat into 1 cm slices.

    Add all the flavoring ingredients and rub in.

    Rest for about 1 hour.

    Put an aluminium foil lined tray in the oven, and heat.

    You can do this quickly by heating under a fish grill.

    If you refrigerated the meat while it was marinating, make sure to bring it back to room temperature before roasting it.

    Roast the pork for 4 minutes at 740 W. Take it out and brush with the marinade.

    Turn the pork over, and roast for another 4 minutes at 740 W. Repeat once more (4 minutes x 3 turns for a total of 12 minutes).

    Crank up the heat to 1000 W and cook the pork on both sides for 1 minute each to brown.
