  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 1 1/4 c. milk, scalded
  • 2 yeast cakes
  • 5 c. flour
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp. grated orange rind
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon rind
  • 1/2 c. almonds, chopped
  • 1 c. raisins

    Scald milk; pour over sugar and butter.

    Cool.

    Dissolve yeast with a little of warm mixture and add remaining milk mixture.

    Add 1/2 of the flour and beat well.

    Add salt to eggs and beat until thick.

    Add to mixture and mix well.

    Add remaining ingredients. Knead for 15 minutes.

    Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Place in well-buttered tube pan, sprinkled with fine bread crumbs, and bake for 45 minutes in 350° oven.
