  • 1 c. shortening
  • 6 eggs, separated
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg *
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. soda

    Blend sugar and shortening; add egg yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
