Bacon Pepper Bread

Ingredients

  • 7 1/4 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1 egg (at room temperature)
  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 1/2 lb. bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
  • 1/3 c. reserved bacon grease

Directions

    Mix 2 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt, pepper and undissolved yeast.

    Mix milk, water and bacon grease to 120° to 130°. Gradually add to dry ingredients and beat 2 minutes at medium speed of mixer.

    Add egg and 1 cup of flour.

    Beat at high speed for 2 minutes.

    Stir in bacon and enough flour to make soft dough.
