  • 2 lb. Northern beans
  • 1/4 to 1/2 lb. bacon
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. brown sugar (scant)
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. dry mustard
  • dash of ginger

Directions

    Soak beans overnight in enough water to allow the beans to swell.

    When ready to cook, add 1/2 teaspoon of soda to same water and allow to come to boil.

    Drain this water off and cover with fresh water.

    Add bacon; cook until beans mash easily against side of dish.
  5. 5
    Keeping covered with water, add remaining ingredients.
  6. 6
    Bake at 350° for 1 1/2 hours or 325° for a longer time.
