  • 1 lb. navy beans, rinsed and drained
  • 8 c. water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. prepared mustard
  • 3/4 c. dark molasses
  • 1/2 c. catsup (Heinz)
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2 to 3 slices lean bacon, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. celery seed, ground
  • 1/2 c. onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 c. bell pepper, finely chopped
