Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter
  • 1 lb. filo sheets
  • 2 cups coarsely chopped almonds
  • 2 cups coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup honey
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 stick cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice

    Combine nuts, spices, and sugar.

    In a greased pan spread 8 sheets of filo (each seperately being brushed with butter).

    Spread a thin layer of nut mixture followed by 2 sheets of filo then another layer of mixture.

    Continue to alternate filo and mixture until mixture is gone.

    Layer remaining filo.

    With knife, score into squares or diamonds.

    Bake for 325F until brown (1 hour).

    Pour syrup evenly over baklava and let stand overnight.

    Syrup: Boil all ingredients for 20 minutes and strain.
