Basic Ice Cream(Yields 2 Quarts)

Ingredients

  • 1 tin evaporated milk
  • 1 tin water
  • 1 tin condensed milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 level Tbsp. custard powder
  • vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp. gelatin
  • 1/4 c. water

Directions

    Mix custard powder with a little cold milk.

    Add to evaporated milk with slightly beaten eggs.

    Cook over boiling water in a double boiler until mixture coats spoon.

    Add 1 teaspoon gelatin dissolved in 1/4 cup cold water while the custard is hot.

    Remove from heat; cool and add condensed milk or sugar if necessary. Flavor with vanilla or mixed essence.

    Chill and freeze or churn in freezer.

    Excellent served with either fruit cocktail, flaked coconut, peaches, pears or chocolate sauce.
