Basic Marinara

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (1-3/4 lb. each) San Marzano tomatoes
  • plum tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 lg. bay leaf
  • 12 leaves fresh basil, shredded
  • 8 leaves oregano, shredded
  • 1 dash crushed red pepper flakes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Directions

    Add the tomatoes to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.

    Once simmering, add the olive oil, garlic and the bay leaf.

    Simmer for 30 minutes.

    After 30 minutes, add the basil, oregano and crushed red pepper flakes.

    Season a touch with salt and pepper.

    Allow to simmer for 15 minutes.

    Taste, and season with salt and pepper until the sauce is to your liking.

    You may also use an immersion blender to blend the sauce to a finer consistency.

    Just make sure you remove the bay leaf first if you decide to do so.
