Ingredients

  • 1 lb. granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 oz. salt
  • 1/2 can (14 1/2 oz. size) evaporated milk
  • 1/3 lb. yeast
  • 1 lb. shortening
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 qt. water
  • vanilla
  • 4 lb. sifted flour

    Combine sugar, shortening and salt.

    Mix thoroughly.

    Add beaten eggs.

    Mix milk and water; scald.

    Cool to 80°.

    Add yeast and vanilla; stir until well mixed.

    Add to egg mixture.

    Add flour; mix thoroughly.

    Place dough in warm place (80°).

    Allow to rise 2 hours or until double in bulk.

    Punch down; allow to rise 15 minutes more.
