Ingredients
- 1 yeast cake
- 1 c. lukewarm water
- 1 c. milk
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 Tbsp. salt
- 6 c. enriched flour
Directions

1Scald milk.

2Add sugar, salt, shortening and 1/2 cup water. Add yeast which has been softened in 1/2 cup water.

3Add flour gradually, mixing it in thoroughly.

4When dough is stiff, turn out on lightly floured board and knead until smooth.

5Shape into ball. Place in greased bowl.

6Cover and let rise in warm place (80° to 85°) until dough is double in bulk.

7Punch down.

8Let rise again. Mold into loaves.

9Place in greased bread pans.

10Let rise until doubled in bulk.

11Bake in moderately hot oven (400° to 425°) for 40 to 45 minutes.
