Ingredients

  • 1 can whole tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato sauce or paste
  • 1 large onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • seasoning to taste
  • 2 to 3 celery stalks, cut fine
  • 2 or 3 ham bones or hocks
  • 1 large pkg. Great Northern white beans
  • sausage

Directions

    Put all ingredients, except sausage, in 8 to 10 quart pot and fill with water.

    Add a lot of black and red pepper, but no salt yet, as the ham may be salty enough.

    Add salt after it has cooked an hour or two if needed.

    Cook about 8 hours.

    Sometime during the day, slice a link of smoked sausage in rounds and fry to remove grease.

    Add to soup.

    This freezes well but will need more pepper after thawing.
