Ingredients

  • 2 c. navy beans
  • 1 1/2 to 2 lb. ham shank with meat
  • 3 1/2 qt. water
  • 1/3 c. mashed potatoes
  • 2 large onions, diced
  • 3 to 4 carrots, diced
  • 5 ribs celery, diced
  • garlic powder (about 1 tsp.)
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. rosemary
  • crushed red pepper to taste
  • salt to taste

Directions

    Bring water and ham to a boil; reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 hours.

    Add beans and simmer 1 hour.

    Stir in potatoes and all else.

    Cook 45 minutes to 1 hour.

    Serve with warm cheese bread.
