- 1 c. navy pea beans
- 2 carrots
- 2 onions
- 2 potatoes
- 1 1/2 c. cooked ham
- 2 qt. boiling water
- pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 clove garlic
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 Tbsp. flour
- paprika
Directions

1Wash and soak beans in cold water overnight.

2Drain beans; add hot water and sliced vegetables.

3Add meat and spices.

4Cover; simmer slowly 1 1/2 hours.

5Melt butter; stir in 1 tablespoon flour and several dashes of paprika.

6Add some broth from soup to make paste.

7Stir this back into soup and cook a few more minutes. Makes 8 servings.
