- 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 1/2 lb. beef chuck, cut in 1 inch cubes
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed tomato soup
- 1 1/2 c. chopped onion
- 1/2 tsp. dried basil, crushed
- 4 medium potatoes, pared and cubed
- 4 medium carrots, cut in 1 inch pieces
- 1/2 c. dry red wine or water
Directions

1Combine flour, salt and dash of pepper.

2Coat meat cubes in seasoned flour.

3Brown in hot shortening in Dutch oven.

4Add soup, 2 1/2 cups water, onion and basil.

5Cover and bake in 375° oven about 1 hour.

6Add potatoes, carrots and wine or water.

7Cover and bake 1 hour longer or until tender.

8Makes 4 to 6 servings.
