Beef-Wine Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb. beef cubes
  • 1 (14 oz.) can beef consomme
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/3 c. dry red wine, plus water to make 1/2 c.
  • 1/4 c. fine bread crumbs
  • 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper

Directions

    Mix the first 4 ingredients and pour in 3-quart casserole.

    Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.

    Stir into beef mixture. Cook, uncovered, about 3 hours at 300° to 325°.

    Stir occasionally. Add small amount of water if it gets thick before beef is tender. Serve over noodles, rice or with potatoes.
