- 3 cans (16 oz. each) sliced beets
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 1 c. vinegar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 3 Tbsp. ketchup
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 25 whole cloves, tied in a cheesecloth bag
Directions

1Drain the beets, reserving 1 1/2 cups of juice in a large saucepan.

2Add cornstarch to juice and mix well.

3Add beets and remaining ingredients; bring to a boil.

4Reduce heat and simmer until the sauce is slightly thickened, stirring often.

5Remove spice bag.

6Cover and refrigerate overnight.

7Yield: 10 to 12 servings.
