  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 3/4 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in water in large mixing bowl.

    Add sugar, shortening, eggs, nutmeg, salt and 2 cups of flour.

    Beat on low speed, scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds.

    Beat on medium speed, scraping occasionally, 2 minutes.

    Stir in rest of flour until smooth.

    Cover, let rise in warm place until double (about 45 minutes).

    Dough is ready when indentation remains when touched with floured finger.

    Stir dough down by beating 25 strokes to 1/2 size.

    Roll dough into sizes to form body, head and ears.
