- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 c. sugar
Directions

1Cream shortening and brown sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy.

2Blend in molasses and egg.

3Add sifted flour, soda, salt and spices; mix well.

4Shape by tablespoonfuls into balls.

5Roll in sugar.

6Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.

7Bake at 375° for 12 minutes.

8Cool on wire rack.

9Yields 2 1/2 dozen. Easily doubled.
