Ingredients

  • 2 lb. round steak or stewing beef
  • 1 large can tomatoes
  • 1 can sliced water chestnuts
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms
  • 3/4 c. red wine
  • 8 carrots
  • 4 stalks celery
  • 2 onions
  • 3 Tbsp. fine tapioca
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cut all ingredients into bite sized pieces.

    Put into covered pot, holding mushrooms aside until last 1/2 hour of covered cooking.

    Bake covered at 325° for 2 1/2 hours.

    Stir occasionally during cooking.

    Remove cover after 2 1/2 hours and continue cooking for 1/2 hour to brown.

    Serves 6 to 8.
