  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 1/4 c. cake flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 1/2 c. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 1/4 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Directions

    Cream sugar, butter and Crisco together.

    Add eggs, one at a time.

    Mix all dry ingredients together and sift.

    Add flavorings. Bake at 325° for 1 1/2 hours.

    If you have a very hot oven at 325°, bake at 300° until done.

    Do not open door during the first hour.
