  • 6 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 cups lard or Crisco
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 tsp. anise seed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon

Directions

    Sift together dry ingredients. Cream together sugar, shortening, and anise seeds until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Mix in flour mixture and brandy. Turn dough out onto floured board and roll to 1/2 to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into shapes (The fleur-de-lis is traditional). Dust with sugar and cinnamon mix. Bake at 350° for about 10 minutes.
