- 1 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. sugar or substitute (optional)
- 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
- 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. milk
Directions

1In a bowl, combine dry ingredients.

2Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Stir in milk.

4Turn onto floured board; knead 1 minute.

5Roll or pat dough in 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter.

6Place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.

7Makes 4 biscuits.
