  • 1 c. all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. sugar or substitute (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. milk

Directions

    In a bowl, combine dry ingredients.

    Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

    Stir in milk.

    Turn onto floured board; knead 1 minute.

    Roll or pat dough in 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with a floured biscuit cutter.

    Place on greased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes.
