- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 2 tsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. milk
Directions

1Sift flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar, and sugar into bowl.

2Cut in shortening till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3Make a well; add milk all at once.

4Stir quickly with fork just till dough follows fork around bowl.

5Turn onto lightly floured surface.

6(Dough should be soft.)

7Knead lightly 10 to 12 strokes.

8Roll or pat dough 1/2-inch thick.

9Dip cutter in flour; cut dough straight down--no twisting.

10Baking on ungreased baking sheet in 450° oven for 10 to 12 minutes.

11Makes 16 medium biscuits.
