  • 2 cups dried black beans, sorted, rinsed
  • 2-1/2 qt. (10 cups) water, divided
  • 2 medium onions, chopped (about 2 cups) King Sooper's 1 lb For $0.99 thru 02/09
  • 4 slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
  • 1 tsp. salt

    Bring beans and 1 qt.

    (4 cups) of the water to boil in large saucepan.

    Boil 5 minutes.

    Remove from heat; let stand 1-1/2 hours.

    Drain well.

    Return beans to saucepan.

    Add onions, bacon, garlic and remaining 1-1/2 qt.

    (6 cups) water.

    Bring to boil on medium-high heat.

    Reduce heat to medium-low; simmer, partially covered, 1 hour.

    Skim off any foam.

    Stir in oregano and salt.

    Continue cooking an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until beans are tender.
