- 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
- 1 1/4 c. sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 c. cocoa
- 1 c. hot water or coffee (I like water better)
- 1 1/2 c. sifted Gold Medal flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
Directions

1Combine cocoa and hot water.

2Stir to dissolve completely.

3Add to creamed shortening, sugar and eggs, alternately with dry ingredients that have been sifted.

4Bake in 2 round (8-inch) layer or square cake pans.

5Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes for layers. Bake 45 to 55 minutes for square cake pan.

6Bake approximately 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean for 24 cupcakes in muffin paper cupcake pan.
