  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. soda (scant)
  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves
  • 2 c. blackberries, drained
  • 2 Tbsp. blackberry juice

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add well beaten egg yolks. Dissolve soda in milk; add alternately with flour which has been well sifted.

    Fold in beaten egg whites and blackberry juice.

    Bake in oven at 350°.

    Bake in layers or tube pan.
