Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 Tbsp. Spry or other shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/4 c. flour (don't sift)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c. nuts

    Put water and raisins in large pan; boil for 5 minutes (cool).

    While still warm, add all other ingredients.

    Mix together well.

    Add nuts last.

    Grease cans fully to top.

    Half fill them.

    Bake

    until well brown in 350° oven for 45 to 60 minutes.

    Cool for short time.

    While still warm, tip out of can on wax paper.

    (Use 3 or 4 No. 2 cans, vegetable or fruit.)
